Cara Johnston is an actor, playwright, and theatre maker from Dallas, Texas.

A critically acclaimed playwright, Cara's plays mix humor and heartbreak to tell women’s stories with imagination and heart. A filmed production of her debut work, The Little Glass Slipper as Performed by the Queen of France and Her Friends, premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland and received five-star reviews. The film wad later televised on PBS stations across Texas. In 2023, she performed her one-woman play The Madwoman at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where she again received five-stars and an OffFest nomination. In 2025, Cara was selected as the Br!NK Resident Playwright with Renaissance Theaterworks for her newest play, Great White Throne.

As an actor, she has performed at theatres in Texas, Louisiana, Wisconsin and Scotland, with favorite roles including Cherie in Bus Stop
and the title role in Medea

Cara often finds her inspiration deep in the archives of Wikipedia and through collaboration with her sister. 

She lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with her husband and pet rabbit.
